A giant in Bahia

The wind farm is located in the cities of Várzea Nova and Morro do Chapéu (BA), about 330 km away from the state capital, Salvador. It has a capacity of 223.25 MW distributed across 95 Wobben Enercon 2.35 MW wind turbines.

The energy produced is transported from the Serra da Babilônia substation (34.5kV/230kV with 450MVA) via a 73.75 km transmission line to the Morro do Chapéu II substation, where it is connected to the National Interconnected System (SIN) grid.

Surrounding cities

The municipalities of Várzea Nova and Morro do Chapéu have a combined population of approximately 48,000. The nearest cities are Ourolândia, through which access to the complex is gained, and Jacobina.

The communities surrounding the complex have already received approximately R$6 million in completed and ongoing social programs. The initiatives cover health, education, waste management, agroecology, road systems, water supply, and sanitation.
